New Crayons

Remember when you were a kid and getting new crayons was a big deal? Getting new books holds the same kind of magic for some of us big kids. Every week on Sunday, I post what's new in our box. I think crayons is a pretty cool metaphor for multicultural lit. Every week we receive a book at Color Online is a good week.

Hey folks! I, Ah Yuan, will be hosting New Crayons this week! Incidentally, it seems like I'm the only person who got new stuff to talk about this week, so the bad news is that the list of books will be way shorter than usual. D: However, the good news is that I will strive to spice up this post with my Yuan-isms of tangents and book babble so as to make this post interesting and longer than is necessary! I'm cool like that, I know.

Of course, I will also do my best to be a welcoming host and invite those interested in sharing their own New Crayons to join in as well. 8D

Banya: The Explosive Delivery Man - Vol. 1 by Young-Oh Kim, trans. Taesoon Kang & Derek Kirk Kim
With a worldwide war raging between humans and monsters, the young delivery men of the Gaya Desert Post Office do not pledge allegiance to any country or king. They are banded together by a pledge to deliver. Fast. Precise. Secure. Banya, the craziest and craftiest of the bunch, will stop at nothing to get a job done. Known as the Explosive Delivery Man for his risk taking, bold resolve, and impeccable record, Banya agrees to complete a wounded soldier's mission to transport a parcel of great importance--not knowing what dangers lie in store for him and his friends! As their arduous journey begins, Banya promises, "There isn't a delivery I can't make. I always deliver."

Comments: I found this manhwa (i.e. South Korean comic) for $5.99 CAD! w00t~ I actually read this whole volume a little over a year ago when the publisher Dark Horse first put up the whole first volume up for preview about a year ago for a limited time period. I really enjoyed the wild adventures our protagonist went through, and gladly bought a copy of my own to keep. Think mail delivery is boring? Well, THINK AGAIN! And hey, books come through shipping to your mail, so as far as I'm concerned, mail delivery is awesome. [FYI, for those a little more hardcore about their translated comics such as manhwa or manga, unfortunately they didn't keep the syntax of the Korean language in the text, but I suspect that for those first getting into manhwa, this would be a fun and easy read, translation-wise]

The Pack by L. M. Preston

Kids on Mars are disappearing, but Shamira decides to use the criminals most unlikely weapons against them, the very kids of which they have captured. In order to succeed, she is forced to trust another, something she is afraid to do. However, Valens her connection to the underworld of her enemy, proves to be a useful ally. Time is slipping, and so is her control on the power that resides within her. Yet, in order to save her brother's life she is willing to risk it all.

Comments: I won this ARC from a contest (along with swag, which I may consider posting pics of when I stop being lazy) and... I'm not quite sure what to expect? I have yet to read Explorer X-Alpha, unfortunately, and I don't quite have a taste for sci-fi *is much more of a fantasy person on the whole speculative fiction spectrum*... However! I'm all about kickass women and family portrayals in fiction, so I'm very excited about reading this.

And that's all I have from this week!

Have any new crayons you'd like to share! Please leave a comment telling us what you got or link to your post here

ETA Now with Mr. Linky for linking your posts. 8D
