What Are You Reading?

What are you reading this month? Have you set in reading goals this year? Does it matter if we are a literate society? What do we gain by reading?

We want to hear from us. In 2008, make Color Online more than a place to stop by for book snapshot or biography sketch to read. This year, tell us what you think.

Well, what I am actually reading is far from what I plan to read this month. Right now I am reading a Bill Bryson novel called The Lost Continent. It is very humorous, but at times I lose interest. I am also planning to read Girl Soldier, a book about a girl in Northern Uganda who is captured as a child from her village and endures fighting with rebel groups for her childhood. I believe that it is very important for a society to be literate. I find joy and education in reading, and I find that it is nice to have the window to books open. Literacy is very important for a society because of the sheer impact on children and people both emotionally and intellectually. I believe that it opens doors to concepts that many people living in isolated sections of the world may not ever imagine, and is in a way another form of communication and nourishment.

save_the_earth, I've heard about Girl Soldier and I'd like to read it as well. Please come back and share your review.
