I'm with you in the whole 'being white makes it hard to fathom,' but truthfully, I think anyone in our day and age -- in this country, at least -- could never really comprehend this type of life. That's what was so fascinating about this book. Dana is a modern woman, and as such, she just can't wrap her brain around the helplessness and hopelessness in the situation she finds herself in. And it was just as hopeless in a completely different way for Rufus. That was so hard to read, seeing him become what you hoped he wouldn't. As painful as this book was to read, it is one of my favorites. Stunning. I really need to read more by her.<br />Okay, ramble over.Mistyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11436497955518156688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199038920161794698.post-67871324116122198672009-05-28T15:57:13.698-04:002009-05-28T15:57:13.698-04:00This is a great review. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Butler when she came to Spelman College to discuss the writing craft. She signed my Kindred book, which I treasure. She was such a great woman and writer. I miss her so much. She was definitely taken away too soon.Karen Stronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08697785820907711723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199038920161794698.post-78189071910464325392009-05-26T19:21:52.349-04:002009-05-26T19:21:52.349-04:00Great review.
