Even as a kid, I wasn't a fan because all she did was look a certain way to find love. I think this idea of cultural retelling it fascinating but I still wish we could reinvent the Cinderella tale. Kind of like they did in the film "Ever After" where there is a stronger female lead.Jessie Cartyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13181286764480973423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199038920161794698.post-13900304034545324032010-02-13T08:14:28.287-05:002010-02-13T08:14:28.287-05:00Nathalie, we should talk sometime about assets of ...Nathalie, we should talk sometime about assets of beauty in different cultures. =D

Zetta, thank you and Happy Lunar New Year!Tarie Sabidohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04105469967850020791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199038920161794698.post-89896644221815472812010-02-13T07:44:36.606-05:002010-02-13T07:44:36.606-05:00what a great way to ring in the new year--thanks f...what a great way to ring in the new year--thanks for this fascinating review, Tarie!Zettahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08073292465074072114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199038920161794698.post-49187135727738601452010-02-13T07:40:22.206-05:002010-02-13T07:40:22.206-05:00Tarie,

The fact that "Cinderalla" lost her shoe is even more symbolic, I believe, when you are reminded that feet were/are an important asset of beauty in the Chinese culture (and elswhere, thinking how we ornate our feet in Africa, but I'm digressing here!)...

I look forward to reading it as well. I'm sure it's a keeper. Thanks again. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199038920161794698.post-9203213039867908212010-02-13T02:03:10.754-05:002010-02-13T02:03:10.754-05:00Thanks, Ari! :)

I missed this one as a child and I will have to read it (my school library didn't get cultural Cinderella retellings until I was in 5th grade and people thought I was too old to be reading Cinderellas. But they were so good and it was fun to learn about all the different cultures!) Thanks for this review :) And I agree with Tanita, the book will expand knowledge because I don't know what a kingfisher is either so off to Google I go.MissAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11042352415616854651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-199038920161794698.post-20119075438734730382010-02-12T14:32:56.663-05:002010-02-12T14:32:56.663-05:00Hi, Tanita! AND it's perfect -- the perfect hint of menace for the 4-8 year old set. And then a kingfisher feather cloak? You know every little kid will next Google a Kingfisher, and thus increase their little knowledge store. Love it.tanita✿davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01671822274852087499noreply@blogger.com
